This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.

Sometimes we need to talk about the tough stuff because it touches everybody, like addiction. Chemical dependency is an important issue. Awareness is the first step, of understanding there’s a problem and what we can be doing to help. Jake Shoff is motivated to save lives and assist people in overcoming addiction, which is why he co-founded The Phoenix Recovery Center.

This type of work is a 180 from what Jake was doing previously in land acquisitions. After a bad accident, one of his best friends was prescribed pain medication. He watched this friend get addicted to the medicine and later lose his life as a result. This prompted Jake’s desire to educate himself on chemical dependency and how he could help. In 2012, he co-founded The Phoenix Recovery Center with his business partner Troy Jolley.

The Phoenix Recovery Center is a rehabilitation facility located in South Jordan and focused on chemical dependency. Jake says this is a dual-diagnosis facility, meaning they treat the entire person and not just the symptom. They focus on addressing the underlying issue fueling the problem and not just the addiction itself. It takes a lot of work and willingness for clients to find the root cause.

Their program has residential, day and outpatient treatment. Clients generally go through six months at The Phoenix Recovery Center, using various forms of therapy, and their success speaks for itself. Nationally, about 8 percent of people recover after 30-day treatment, but at the Phoenix, Jake says 60 percent of their clients recover. Out of extraordinary appreciation, these recovering clients become ambassadors for the center.

Jake credits their talented team of employees and physicians, as the reason The Phoenix Recovery Center is experiencing such great outcomes. They’re helping people change their lives and return to their families and loved ones to complete the cycle of recovery.
