For Aetna health insurance, mental health coverage and care depend on an individual’s insurance plan. Luckily, by law, any health condition that has received a medical diagnosis is required to be covered under health insurance. So, at the minimum, all Aetna plans help cover mental health care for cases where the mental health service was recommended by a doctor. For individuals who have an EPO or PPO plan with Aetna insurance, you typically won’t need a referral first for mental health therapy to be covered. To see what type of mental health coverage you have, visit your Aetna online portal or call member services to determine what is covered.

No matter your plan, mental health coverage is considered a specialized service, so your costs for treatment might be more expensive. Your online portal should help you determine what your costs will be when seeking therapy, filling prescriptions, or receiving other treatment for your mental health condition.

Aetna health insurance will help cover all of the care needed for the diagnosis and treatment of a mental health condition. However, Aetna insurance does not typically cover couples counseling, life coaching, or career counseling. Typically these services are not covered because they are not related to a mental health diagnosis. Additionally, Aetna insurance is not as likely to cover therapeutic aid outside a therapist’s office, such as a therapist providing support in a grocery store for someone struggling with an eating disorder. These situations create higher liability and so are less likely to be covered. Aetna does, however, cover online therapy as an option for individuals who do not want to go into the office.

Aetna Chemical Dependency Coverage

Aetna is dedicated to working with each individual to determine the amount of care they need to overcome their chemical dependency, which is one of many reasons why they make a great partner with The Phoenix. As with mental health coverage, the extent of chemical dependency coverage depends on each individual’s insurance plan. Along with reaching out to Aetna support to understand what is covered under your plan, our team can also help you determine what is covered under your insurance.

With Aetna chemical dependency coverage, individuals may qualify for the following treatments:

  • Detoxification
  • Inpatient rehabilitation
  • Residential rehabilitation
  • Partial hospital treatment
  • Intensive outpatient treatment
  • Continuing care programs

At The Phoenix Recovery Center, our in-house psychiatrists, therapists, and staff are readily available to provide diagnosis, care, and treatment. For many individuals, mental health disorders and chemical dependency go hand-in-hand. Our dual diagnosis treatment helps individuals receive the best possible care for both disorders.

Get Treatment Through The Phoenix Recovery Center

The Phoenix Recovery Center is driven by the mission statement, “Empowering individuals and families suffering from addiction and mental health disorders to celebrate life through lasting solutions.” We accomplish the recovery experience through a continuum of care that begins with residential treatment and traverses across a day program, intensive outpatient program (IOP), to general outpatient programs (GOP). Lastly, we provide a continuum of care that culminates in a weekly alumni support meeting, which provides a recovery support community to sustain the recovery capital of The Phoenix alumni.
